The Stone Ridge Debate Squad traveled to New Haven Connecticut for the 25th annual Yale Invitational Debate Tournament. The Yale Invitational features more than 1,000 competitors from around the nation and is one of the top two tournaments in Lincoln-Douglas debate held in the United States. Most competitors are very experienced debaters, and almost all are high school juniors and seniors.
The Stone Ridge debaters - five Second Academics and one Third Academic, who was competing in her first debate, were among the youngest at the Yale Tournament. Katie Bittman '20, Cambria Digges '20 and Charlotte Gidley '20 competed in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Division. Each scored high speaker points and at least one victory.
Madeleine Sateri '19 and Anna Stallings '20 and Caroline Vining '20 competed in Junior Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Division. Each also earned high speaker points and at least two victories. Madeleine, competing in her first debate tournament, scored four wins, and placed 35th overall in the tournament!
The Stone Ridge debaters scored victories over Stuvyesant High School (New York, NY), Notre Dame Prep (Scottsdale, AZ), Acton-Boxborough (Acton, Mass.), Half Hollow Hills (Long Island, NY), Strath Haven (Wallingford, Penn.), Timothy Christian (Elhurst, Illinois), Montgomery Blair (Silver Spring, MD), Fox Chapel (Pittsburgh, Penn.), and Newton High (Newton, KS). It was an outstanding performance by the squad debating in their first national circuit tournament.
