Mrs. Beachler took her senior English elective class, Voices of the African Diaspora, to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The museum is devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. One of the goals of NMAAHC is to help visitors explore what it means to be an American and share how American values like resiliency, optimism, and spirituality are reflected in African American history and culture.

"One of my favorite parts about the museum was the quotes that were put up on the walls throughout different exhibitions or galleries. I enjoyed reading the empowering quotes from modern and historic people. I did not know much about the museum before our field trip and found it fascinating. I loved the top floors of the museum that included musicians and athletes and how many of them changed the pathway for diversity in the arts and athletics. I left feeling very moved by all the new people I had learned about and welcomed sitting by the fountain just reflecting upon the museum." ~ Tatiana Ortega '18
"The African American Museum visit was a perfect complement to all that we've studied thus far in Voices of the African Diaspora. I found myself able to both learn a lot and reflect on history and on present topics and issues.
