The Stone Ridge Cross Country program has a long and successful history competing in the ISL – a legacy growing even stronger through the leadership of this year's senior class. Over the past four years, the senior leaders on the varsity cross country team have brought a hard-hat mentality to the program. In fact, their simple approach of improving every day has become the mantra of the program, with each athlete on the team pushing and supporting each other to simply be their best. This tactic has been so successful that team members are improving their race times from practice to practice and race to race throughout the season.
According to AD Jason McGhee, "It's been really great to watch these seniors grow over the past four years. The coaches have supported them, of course, but the student-athletes have embraced the opportunity and challenged themselves every step of the way, especially when there were setbacks or adversity. I couldn't be more proud of what they've accomplished as leaders. This season the team is off to a great start, and I can't wait to see where the team finishes this year."
While a legacy is not what they set out to accomplish four years ago, it's what they will be able to look back on as they wrap up their senior seasons and become successful alumni. Led by Genevieve DiBari '18, Isabelle Barnidge '18, and Maddie Rodgers '18, this group of seniors also inspired the creation of the Middle School Cross Country program as well three years ago. Despite only being in its third year of existence, the SR MS Cross Country program has solidified itself as one of the best in the area, so the future is extremely bright for the SR Cross Country program. #GatorStrong #goSRgators
On September 16, the Stone Ridge Cross Country team won their first invitational of the year at Landon. Led by the individual victory of Genevieve DiBari '18, the varsity squad edged out league rival Holton-Arms by one point. Despite racing on a notoriously slow course, the varsity team average of 21:49 was one of the fastest team 5k averages in school history. In addition to DiBari's individual victory, Kate Walter '21 (3rd), Isabel Barnidge '18 (8th), and Maddie Rodgers '18 (13th) earned individual medals. The JV team, racing against several other team's varsity squads, finished 5th overall.
